Colophon
How this site is made. v. I, 2026
Type
Cormorant Garamond for titles and prose, the classical frame. IBM Plex Mono for transcripts and anything terminal-like.
Colour
Two palettes from Greek pottery and paper: papyrus (cream, ink and ochre) in light mode, and red-figure (black glaze and terracotta) in dark mode. One accent colour each. The site follows your system setting until you choose with the sun or moon.
Build
Plain HTML, CSS and a little JavaScript, with no framework and no build step. The dialogues are generated offline with language models, saved as JSON, and replayed in the browser.
The shell prompt at the top of every page is a working command line. Click it or press /, then type help. You can ls and cd around the site, open a dialogue and step through it with n, or grep every transcript for a word.
Inspiration
Most of what we know of Socrates comes from dialogues: conversations in which he asks questions until someone’s confident answer starts to wobble. He claimed no answers of his own, only the habit of testing them, and he thought the unexamined life wasn’t worth living. This site tries to keep that habit. Symposium puts today’s AI models in the seat of Socrates’ companions, and Thoughts is where I examine my own answers.
